Having studied Home Economics in York and Sheffield, Fiona’s passion for food developed whilst working alongside Ian Martin (Father of ‘Saturday Kitchens’ James Martin) at Castle Howard, York. She headed up the wine department which afforded her the privilege of travel to many regions of France sampling, not only their phenomenal wines, but their varied and delicious cuisine too.
She went on to work for two further wine merchants in Yorkshire before starting her family. Whilst at Yorkshire Fine Wines she became the company’s first female sales consultant and worked closely with Nigel Barden, now a BBC food and sports presenter.
Fiona is a mother of four children and when she is not driving them around to various activities she is either working at her husband’s York based property consultancy or at Nestle’s Product Technology Department supporting the recipe development of dark chocolate and cocoa liquor.
Fiona has raised many thousands of pounds for a local charity with the emphasis for the fundraising events revolving around food and wine. These events are known as ‘The Enormous Lunches’ with each lunch (or dinner) being hosted by many of Fiona’s friends in the hospitality sector at their own hotels and restaurants.
With this experience, the move into developing her own catering company Cooked by, is a natural progression.
